Start your cycling adventure at Vasto- San Salvo station. From here, exit the station and turn right onto Via Stazione. The first cross street on the left is your turn. Cycle along Via Stazione for about 500 meters, slowly approaching the SS 16 state road. Crossing this main road requires attention, but the available pedestrian and cycle crossings make the operation safe and easy.

Continue until you reach the Hotel Dakar where you will find a pedestrian crossing and take a small side road next to the Hotel Perrozzi that leads you to the cycle path connecting San Salvo Marina with Vasto Marina.

Once you reach the cycle path, turn right and continue towards San Salvo Marina. Here you can enjoy the panoramic view of the Adriatic Sea and the beaches characterized by fine sand and blue waters.

Continue cycling until you reach the Coastal Biotope and Mediterranean Botanical Garden. This is the highlight of your journey. The protected area is a true natural jewel, with a rich biodiversity of Mediterranean plants and unique coastal habitats. It is the perfect place for nature and photography lovers.

The Mediterranean Botanical Garden protects and enhances a large area of dunes and ponds between the beach and the Regio Tratturo L’Aquila-Foggia. Visiting it means discovering what the sandy beaches of the Adriatic were like until a few decades ago, before the advent of mass seaside tourism.

Born from a “restoration” intervention inspired by strictly scientific criteria, it is today one of the rare dune gardens in Italy, as well as one of the few botanical gardens where rare plant species now extinct along the Adriatic coast have been reintroduced. The back-dune area hosts the typical vegetation of the humid environments of the ponds, which attracts many species of amphibians, freshwater turtles and birds.

Finally, there is an environment with the typical evergreen shrubs (juniper, mastic, rosemary, laurel), typical of the low scrub, and trees such as the holm oak and pine.

This itinerary not only allows you to enjoy a relaxing bike ride, but also offers you the opportunity to explore some of the most fascinating coastal areas of the region.
